WHO IS MILES?
My name is Miles Hiura. I am a Japanese-Korean American raised in Los Angeles, shaped by two very different worlds within my own family.
On my mother’s side, life is global. Although she is Korean, she was raised in Madrid, where Spanish was her first language. Her family is spread across Barcelona, Thailand, and Los Angeles, and I grew up spending my summers moving between them, immersed in different cultures and ways of life.
On my father’s side, life is rooted in place. He was born in Eagle Rock and raised by my grandparents, who met in Japanese internment camps during World War II. Their lives were defined by resilience, stability, and staying in one place. Los Angeles wasn’t just where they lived, it was their everything.
Living between these two perspectives, one global, and one grounded, shaped how I see the world. I was exposed not only to different cultures, but to different definitions of home and belonging. That contrast drives my work today. I think deeply about how we design the places people live, and how we can create communities that offer both connection and stability.
A little more about me, I am a son, brother, friend, and most importantly, an advocate. I see gaps and do everything I can to fill them. I don’t take no for an answer; I take it as a sign I’m talking to the wrong person. I’m an innovator, using creativity as a tool for problem-solving and impact.
Outside of my work, I’m someone who finds inspiration in everyday life. I love food (Mexican, Japanese, and Indian are my top three), traveling, fashion, swimming, baking, and especially scrolling on Zillow.
At my core, I am driven by one goal: to create a more compassionate, sustainable, and connected future. My website is a reflection of my strive toward that goal. I hope you enjoy!
