Real Estate Development Intern
This page captures what I learned working on-site in Barcelona during a summer internship in real estate development. Being immersed in a different city and planning system reshaped how I think about housing, design, and the role development plays in everyday life.
In Barcelona, I worked on-site at Green Habitat Experience, a new development consisting of nine terraced homes located about 40 minutes outside the city. Unlike his previous projects, where abandoned factories and warehouses were converted into housing, this was the developer’s first ground-up project and a shift toward single-family homes.
Green Habitat Experience is a sustainable residential development designed for energy efficiency and self-sufficiency. The homes integrate solar panels, high-efficiency HVAC systems, and EU-compliant sustainability features to reduce reliance on the traditional power grid while supporting modern, resilient living.
I revised both floors to improve circulation, livability, and overall flow. On the first floor, I reorganized circulation around the stair core and consolidated service areas, reducing wasted hallway space and creating a more functional layout with a dedicated study.
On the second floor, I reworked the plan to create a true primary suite by enclosing storage, improving privacy, and strengthening the connection between the bedroom, bathroom, and terraces. These changes clarify public and private zones and make better use of the existing square footage without increasing the home’s footprint.
